Depuis quelques années, Noémie traverse des temps bien difficiles. En 2016, elle a dû se mettre en arrêt de travail afin de s'occuper de sa condition. Elle a dû adapter sa vie pour contrôler une infection bactérienne épeurante. Malheureusement, les pathogènes ce sont maintenant bien installés sur elle depuis plus de 10 mois et portent le nom de Staphylocoque Aureus. Depuis, c'est sans relâche que notre amie investit son temps et son énergie à la recherche d’une cure pouvant potentiellement la guérir, celle-ci souhaitant à tout prix retrouver une santé et une qualité de vie acceptable.
C'est au cours d'un sevrage de corticostéroïdes et d'immunosuppresseurs, qu'au départ, son système immunitaire étant considérablement affaibli, Noémie attrapa une infection Staphyloccocus Aureus résistant à la Methicilline (SARM) ou (MRSA) . Depuis son diagnostique en mars 2018, aucun antibiotique n'a pu exterminer complètement la bactérie de son corps et les microorganismes bactériens se multiplient maintenant à plusieurs endroits sur son corps. Ses 4 membres sont atteints par ces bactéries et sont infectés chroniquement. Ceci dit, Noémie fait face à des risques de complications considérables. L'infection chronique pourrait éventuellement la mener à l’amputation, ou dans le pire cas, à la mort, puisque la bactérie prendra toutes opportunités de faiblesse chez son hôte pour se propager davantage sans qu’aucun médicament puisse l’en empêcher.

Nous avons grand espoir en ce traitement! Nous savons très bien que la médecine traditionnelle ne peut plus rien pour elle, et nous sommes conscientes que personne ne peut vivre ainsi. Some of you know Noémie’s situation either from her own personal intervention, and her friends’. Either way, we are ALL aware of the nightmare she has been dealing with and continues to deal with today!

Noémie has been struggling through hard times for the past few years. In 2016, she was forced to stop working in an effort to heal her condition. She had to adapt her lifestyle in an attempt to control and heal an expanding bacterial infection. Unfortunately, the pathogens of this bacteria have finally settled on her body for over 10 months now, which has been discovered to be Staphylococcus Aureus. Ever since, our friend has invested all of her time and energy researching a cure that would potentially heal her for good, desperately wishing to be cured in order to have a decent quality of life.
It was while weaning off corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs, that had weakened her immune system considerably, that Noémie’s bacterial infection, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) immerged. Since her diagnosis in March 2018, none of the prescribed antibiotics have succeeded in killing the bacteria from her body. Instead, the bacterial microorganisms have been multiplying themselves in several different areas of her body. All of her limbs have been affected by this bacteria, which have been chronically infected. That said, Noémie is facing a number of risks and considerable complications. This chronic infection has the possibility of leading her to amputation of the limbs, or worst even, death, due to the fact that this bacteria will take on any and every opportunity of weakness it encounters in order to spread itself further without any medication being able to intervene.
Since her first infection, Noémie has tried to control her condition to the best of her abilities, but these growing bacteria have been rapidly spreading, especially if she does not take daily extreme measures and caution. There is only one antibiotic still capable of helping her, but it will never free her completely from this bacteria. To complicate her situation further, the bacteria has started to resist this antibiotic.
Noémie could no longer find a way out and started to lose hope, UNTIL the day she heard her microbiology professor speak of bacteriophage therapy.
Phage therapy is a kind of practice that dates prior to the use of antibiotics. Phages are a possible therapy against antibiotic-resistant strains of many bacteria. Having not found a cure within traditional Western medicine due to the bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics, Noémie could actually benefit from a different kind of treatment. Bacteriophage therapy has been proven to be effective on other patients also affected by MRSA. In other words, this treatment uses bacteriophage, a specific virus that infects the bacteria in question and destroys it.
Unfortunately, this kind of therapy, though incredible, has been rendered illegal in many Western countries due to the pressing belief of the efficiency of antibiotics. With more and more cases of antibiotic-resistance, certain medical research centers are reopening their doors to the study of bacteriophage therapy, but are not yet ready to practice on human subjects. Very few countries in the world continue to use this practice and have even gone so far as to develop a much needed expertise in order to certify a functioning treatment. In order to have access to this treatment, Noémie must go to Eastern Europe, more specifically, in Georgia.
Discovering this potential treatment has changed Noémie’s hopes about her condition. Travelling to Georgia to have access to this kind of healthcare could finally free her from these pathogens’ grip. This discovery has given her and her loved ones high hopes for her future. We finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, a long-awaited solution!
