Educación con propósito: Invierte en mi sueño, inviertes en muchos más.

Hola, mi nombre es Marian Matus y nací en Nicaragua, un país lleno de sueños y también de limitaciones. Desde pequeña, la educación fue mi refugio, mi motor y mi esperanza.

A lo largo de mi trayectoria académica, me he esforzado al máximo, en donde mis calificaciones me mantuvieron en el cuadro de honor año tras año. Nunca dejé de soñar ni luchar. A pesar de la disminución en los ingresos familiares, debido a la crisis socioeconómica del país, mis padres se vieron en la situación de considerar cambiarme de colegio a uno más accesible, pero gracias a mi rendimiento académico, obtuve una beca escolar que alivió la carga en mi hogar.

En 2020, gané una beca de inglés intensivo “Access” otorgada por la Embajada de EE. UU., con una duración de 2 años, la cual cursé con excelencia. Dentro de esta beca, estaba incluido un campamento sobre liderazgo y finanzas, la primera experiencia que me motivó a soñar en estudiar finanzas en USA. Además, luego de está clara meta arraigada por un sueño, logré obtener certificaciones de inglés (DET) y alemán (DSD II) en niveles B2–C1, abriéndome puertas en el mundo académico internacional.

Por otro lado, tanto dentro del aula como fuera: me he involucrado en voluntariados, dentro de estos está mi colaboración en una comunidad de escasos recursos en mi país llamada “Santa Julia”, donde ayudé en la mejora de las viviendas dándoles color. De igual forma, contribuí en la recolección para donarles ropa y juguetes y compartí momento con los niños donde mi equipo y yo, les realizamos un sin número de actividades que trajeron esparcimiento y diversión. Asimismo, me preparé personal y profesionalmente con cursos de oratoria, participé en debates y me preparé rigurosamente para alcanzar el Bachillerato Internacional (IB), que hoy tengo en mis manos. Entre otros aportes, he estado colaborando en la Casa del libro, una biblioteca que fomenta la lectura a los jóvenes, con la organización y clasificación de libros de Finanzas.

Después de mucho esfuerzo, logré ser aceptada en varias universidades en EE.UU para comenzar en este Fall 2025. Sin embargo, me decidí por Bentley University, en Massachusetts, una de las universidades más prestigiosas en Finanzas, con una beca por mérito de $22,000/anuales por un período de 4 años, para un total de $88.000, lamentablemente no pude aplicar a ayuda financiera por necesidad por ser estudiante internacional.

¿Por qué necesito tu ayuda?

Aunque ya tengo una parte cubierta por la beca otorgada por la universidad y la ayuda de mis padres, aún debo recaudar $58,000 para cubrir mi primer año que incluye matrícula, alojamiento, seguro, comida, libros y gastos básicos.

No puedo alcanzar esa cifra yo sola. Necesito de su ayuda para poder costear mis años en Bentley University, por eso estoy con lo más urgente: el primer año.

Mi meta es asumir una parte cada vez mayor del costo cada año. Planeo trabajar a partir del segundo año las horas que me permite la universidad, para contribuir directamente con los gastos, y ya tengo confirmado que podré acceder a un préstamo estudiantil a partir del tercer año, gracias a los acuerdos que tiene la universidad con una entidad financiera. Y pienso, reducir a 3.5 años la carrera, para reducir el monto total.

¿Qué significa esto para mí y para otros?

No solo quiero estudiar Finanzas para cambiar mi futuro. Quiero regresar a mi país con las herramientas necesarias para impulsar la educación financiera, la equidad económica y el emprendimiento juvenil, especialmente en comunidades con altos deseos de superación. Sé lo que es tener talento, más no los recursos.

Hoy pido ayuda no solo por mí, sino por todas las jóvenes y mujeres como yo que sueñan en grande, pero necesitan una mano para cruzar fronteras y poder hacer sus sueños realidad, de poder ser independientes, de ayudar a otros que lo necesitan, y de crecer profesionalmente para tener más oportunidades.

Education with purpose: Invest in my dream, you invest in many more.

Hello, my name is Marian Matus, and I was born in Nicaragua, a country full of dreams and also limitations. Since I was a child, education was my refuge, my engine, and my hope.

Throughout my academic career, I have tried my best, where my grades have kept me on the honor roll year after year. I never stopped dreaming or striving. Despite the decrease in family income, due to the country's socio-economic crisis, my parents were in the situation of considering changing my school to a more affordable one, but thanks to my academic performance, I obtained a school scholarship that eased the burden in my home.

In 2020, I won an intensive English scholarship “Access” granted by the U.S. Embassy, with a duration of 2 years, which I studied with excellence. This scholarship included a camp on leadership and finance, the first experience that motivated me to dream of studying finance in the USA. In addition, after this clear goal rooted in a dream, I managed to obtain certifications in English (DET) and German (DSD II) at B2-C1 levels, opening doors for me in the international academic world.

On the other hand, both inside and outside the classroom, I have been involved in volunteering, among these is my collaboration in a poor community in my country called “Santa Julia”, where I helped in the improvement of homes by giving them color. Likewise, I contributed to the collection to donate clothes and toys, and shared time with the children, where my team and I did several activities that brought recreation and fun. I also prepared myself personally and professionally with oratory courses, participated in debates, and prepared myself rigorously to achieve the International Baccalaureate (IB), which I now have in my hands. Among other contributions, I have been collaborating with the Casa del Libro, a library that promotes reading to young people, with the organization and classification of Finance books.

After much effort, I managed to get accepted to several universities in the USA. However, I decided on Bentley University in Massachusetts, one of the most prestigious universities in Finance, with a merit scholarship of $22,000/year for a period of 4 years, for a total of $88,000. Unfortunately, I was unable to apply for need-based financial aid as an international student.

Why do I need your help?

Although I already have a portion covered by the scholarship granted by the university and the help of my parents, I still need to raise $58,000 to cover my first year, which includes tuition, housing, insurance, food, books, and basic expenses.

I can't reach that figure on my own. I need your help to be able to afford my years at Bentley University, so I am on top of the most urgent thing: the first year.

My goal is to take on an increasing share of the cost each year. I plan to work from the second year, the hours that the university allows me, to contribute directly to the expenses, and I have already confirmed that I will be able to access a student loan from the third year, thanks to the agreements that the university has with a financial entity. And I am thinking of reducing my degree to 3.5 years, in order to reduce the total amount.

What does this mean for me and for others?

I don't just want to study Finance to change my future. I want to return to my country with the necessary tools to promote financial education, economic equity, and youth entrepreneurship, especially in communities with a high desire to excel. I know what it is to have talent, but not the resources.

Today I ask for help not only for me, but for all young girls and women like me who dream big, but need a hand to cross borders and make their dreams come true, to be able to be independent, to help others in need, and to grow professionally, to have more opportunities.
