My name is Phyllis Klein and I am raising funds to help Jessica overcome several setbacks on her way toward going back to community college. Jessica is a hard worker and really needs a helping hand.
Due to the limitations of our insurance system (both healthcare and auto) she has been put into a very tough situation through a series of accidents. New hearing aids will cost $8,000. And since she is currently unable to work, we are trying to raise money for a car as well. Our goal is to raise $12,000 for Jessica.
Here is her story in her own words:
Hi, my name is Jessica. I’m 26 years old and I live alone. I work cleaning houses to support myself. Right now, I’m in a really difficult situation. I had a good car, but after a serious accident last November (completely not my fault, a driver ran a stop sign) my car was totaled. Since then, I’ve been trying to save, but the insurance didn’t cover enough to replace the car. A couple of months ago, I was sleeping over at my friend's house. I took my hearing aids out before bed and the dog decided they were a toy and chewed them up. I rely on hearing aids every day because I am profoundly deaf in both ears and have significant difficulty hearing without them. They help me communicate with others, work safely, and manage everyday tasks independently. Losing them has created major challenges in my daily life. And my health insurance refuses to pay for a new pair. On top of all this, just about two weeks ago, I severely sprained my ankle, which has kept me from working. I was trying to find a way to afford a bicycle to get around but now I am unable to work or get around much at all. Once I am recovered and have a car I plan to return to community college.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer.
