Aiding a Mother's Fight for Safety and Stability

I never thought I would need to write this, but I am living my worst nightmare.

I am leaving my abusive and alcoholic spouse. And I am terrified.

I have also lost my job unexpectedly. While I do have interviews that are promising, the income I so heavily rely on is gone.

The purpose of this gofundme is to simply meet our needs so we can survive this nightmare.

Since January, my husband Derek began to drink heavily, which caused him to become belligerent and violent.

In late April, After a several-day episode of drinking, he became very verbally abusive and hostile towards myself and my children.

When confronted, he became EXTREMELY belligerent with myself and my children, threatening that he would never let us leave the house.

I was able to get the children outside, while he engaged with me, cornered me, and began to threaten physical violence.

After a very tense and terrifying several minutes, I was able to maneuver myself to be able to get out the front door. At this point he withdrew and left in his car.

Once he left, the children and I gathered our essentials and fled the apartment to the safety of a friend's home.

In the space of 48 hours, I filed a restraining order and began to look for a new apartment. I am now in the process of filing for a divorce.

In my greatest time of need, my family has rallied to me and I have been able to find safe housing for my children and I and have retained a divorce attorney.

Since seperating from him, he has acted egregiously and vengefully in many ways.

He has cancelled our health insurance. At this time my oldest is struggling with a cardiac condition that he is in treatment for. Both myself and my oldest take life saving medications and both children are in therapy. By canceling the health insurance he has put my child's life at risk and he has cut off access to affordable medication.

He purposely cancelled our internet.

My youngest child is home schooled. This action set my son back almost 3 weeks in school, and he was unable to complete all of coursework by the end of the year.

He stole half of my first paycheck the day I was paid before I could get to the bank to withdraw the money.

This money was meant to help us find safe housing and to get glasses for my children.

Becuase of this action, my children do not have glasses and are struggling with the consequences of poor vision.

He has threatened to cut off phone service.

One of my forms of income is delivering DoorDash. I use my phone for this. This job is what feeds my family. If I lose accsess to this, I lose access to food.

I have had to spend a good chunk of my resources ensuring that myself and my children have uninterrupted phone service.

Derek has been unable to remain sober or hold consistent employment for the last 24 months. With an average of $50 dollars per day being spent on alcohol and another $15 a day on cigarettes.

Becuase of this I have been unable to meet many basic needs of my children and myself.

Things we need include

Glasses for both children

Clothing that is free from holes and stains and that fit properly for both children

Work clothing for myself

Shoes for both children and myself.

Dishes for the kitchen

Pots and pans

A mop

Past due oil change to maintain the integrity of my sole vehicle

My youngests bed is very old and is in very poor condition. It is simply a mattress on the floor. He has been needing a new one for quite a long time. But due to the money being spent on alcohol, I have been unable to replace his bed this last .

We are simply trying to survive this nightmare.
