Hello! My name is Anna Nguyen, and I’m originally from Vietnam. I’m currently an international student in the United States, and I recently got accepted to transfer from BYU–Idaho to Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo to continue studying Biochemistry.
This opportunity means everything to me. At BYU–Idaho, I worked very hard maintaining a 4.0 GPA my freshman and sophomore years, and a 3.7 GPA as a junior in Biomedical Science. I was also blessed to receive full grants that helped ease the burden on my family.
This summer, I’ve been working as a lab assistant and co-author in an organic chemistry research lab at BYU, contributing to the total synthesis and study of an anti-cancer peptide called thioviridamide. This internship has deepened my passion for research and confirmed my dream to pursue a Ph.D. in natural product drug development.
Getting accepted to BYU is a huge step forward for me. It will allow me to stay connected with this lab, expand my research experience, and grow closer to my goal of becoming a scientist who can help others through medical discovery.
But I’ve hit a financial roadblock. As an international student, BYU requires me to pay a $4,000 international deposit and provide proof of $22,000 in financial funds for before I can get my new I-20 form and register for classes. My family used to be able to support me, but recently our business in Vietnam has struggled significantly, and now I can’t afford the funds to start the Fall 2025 semester myself.
I’ve taken on part-time jobs, worked long hours in the lab, volunteered as a temple worker, serving others, and stretched every dollar to stay on track with my education. But this time, I really need help.
I believe in God and in the kindness of people. I pray that God will give extra blessings to those who need it. If you feel moved to support my journey, I would be sincerely and incredibly grateful. No gift is too small. Every single dollar is a gift from God, to you, and I appreciate your faithful stewardship of it. Your generosity will help me continue my education, deepen my research, and, someday, give back by making life-changing discoveries in medicine and serve others as much as I can moving forward.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and consider supporting me!
As shown in the picture: the deadline for the Fall semester is July 15th. I think I have less than a week.
