I’m Lawrence Margolin, I’m raising a fundraising campaign for my mom to get a nurse or aide to help with trach care.

My mom has been fighting medical issues for almost 2 years. It started with being hospitalized for a blocked bowel, and while they were trying to avoid bringing her into surgery, she wound up being put on a ventilator. Mucus plugs block her trach, making breathing difficult, and she has a paralyzed diaphragm muscle and collapsed lung on the left side. She has fought to get off a ventilator 2 times in 13 months. She recently developed pneumonia and tested positive for Covid, setting her back 40 days in her progress in physical therapy. She has difficulty breathing now, and she needs to get suctioned, to allow her airway to stay open and clear.

She had abdominal surgery for a blocked Bowel and to repair a 25-plus-year-old hernia, they did a Tracheostomy for her to remove 70 oz of fluid they found in her abdominal wall and Insert a feeding tube in May 2022.

The last year 2022, she spent the first 6 months of the year between 3 different hospitals and a rehabilitation facility. During this time, she had to learn how to talk, swallow food and swallow liquids, as well as walk, again. Then in December 2022, she went into the hospital, again.

This year, she has been in 2 different hospitals and another rehabilitation facility over the last three-plus months. Again, during this time, she had to learn how to talk, swallow food and swallow liquids, as well as walk again. She is now in a rehabilitation facility specializing in trach and ventilator issues. Her insurance only covers up to 100 days, and will not restart until a few months out of the facility. So, if she has to go back to the hospital and rehab after she gets out now, she might not have enough coverage available with her insurance.

That’s why I’m creating a campaign to cater to all the expenses needed to take full care of her health for over 12 months. When she does get home, the qualified nurse's aide will cost my mom $10,850 per month.

All the funds raised will be utilized for Nurse-aid and other medically related expenses and transportation to and from medical appointments.
