Aide Christi's Recovery and The Wakey Wakey Food Truck
Donation protected
As I sip coffee from my Wakey Wakey coffee mug this morning, I am inspired to reflect on how a start-up food truck run by two brave souls with a passion for good food can have such a valuable and lasting effect on the people they serve. I am also reminded today of how quickly things can change and how important it is we protect what we love.
Both being long-time restaurant people (and amazing chefs), Christi and Jeromy started the Wakey Wakey breakfast food truck with just themselves, a dream, and determination. Since 2020, Christi and Jeromy have not only served up the best breakfast in town, but they have also become a friend and supporter of the communities they serve. The regular gigs at the Elko Speedway and the Minneapolis VA Hospital have led to many close and lasting friendships. Their ethos has always been, "It's not just about the food, it's about the people." It's this sentiment and the joy they get from serving their friends and community that keeps Christi and Jeromy going as the sole proprietors of this small business.
On July 3rd, as Christi and Jeromy were getting prepped for a big holiday weekend in the food truck, it seemed like just another normal day until Christi became gravely ill. When the ambulance arrived at their home, it quickly became clear that she was suffering a significant and life-changing heart attack. Between the amazing skills of the EMS workers and all the medical staff at Southdale Fairview Hospital, she was quickly able to receive the life-saving cardiac intervention she needed. Christi is currently resting in the hospital and starting to get the rehabilitation she needs to get back on her feet.
During these uncertain and challenging financial times, health insurance was not a luxury that Christi and Jeromy could fund as the only two employees and sole proprietors of this small business. Paired with insurmountable medical costs from her hospitalization and the loss of income from Wakey Wakey operations being paused, the financial effects of this health status change will be devastating.
Please consider donating to help Christi and Jeromy keep the Wakey Wakey food truck operational. Christi's recovery will be long and uncertain, but I believe we can help keep the Wakey Wakey dream alive.
