Help support the family of a young Canberran girl as she continues to fight for her life against brain cancer.
At the tender age of 16, A’ida had been enjoying life as a carefree high school student before unexplained vomiting began in late 2021.
In October 2022, A’ida and her family had their lives turned upside down when she finally received a diagnosis: "brain tumour."
A’ida was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer after experiencing nausea and vomiting for nearly a year.
The vomiting became a daily occurrence and A'ida was unable to attend school or participate in everyday life, yet a vast array of tests failed to explain why.
Finally, an MRI was requested and the result came back with the devastating news. Urgent surgery was required to save her life.
To ensure she received the best possible care, A’ida was admitted to the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick, more than 300 kilometres away from home.
Unfortunately Canberra does not have the paediatric specialties to care for children like A’ida and there was no choice but to uproot and relocate to Sydney.
With the support of Ronald McDonald House and the Sony Foundation's 'You Can Stay' program, the family have been able to stay in Sydney together to be by their daughter’s side.
These past months have been a traumatic and heart-shattering time for the entire family.
Since undergoing two brain surgeries, A’ida has completed radiotherapy and is currently undergoing intense rounds of chemotherapy as she continues to bravely fight for her life.
A’ida is a twin sister to Lene, older sister to Evelyn, a daughter to Alice and Dylan, and a very much loved member of the Canberra community.
However, with both Dylan and Alice taking significant time off work to ensure they can be with their daughter 24/7, the lack of income for 9 months has left them in a precarious financial situation.
To date, the family has been reluctant to accept any offers of monetary support - until now.
This fundraising page has been created to rally support behind A’ida and her family to enable them to continue taking the necessary time off work so that they can focus their attention on A’ida’s care and on the wellbeing of their daughters, Evelyn and Lene, without the added burden of financial stress.
This fundraiser has been organised by the ANU Cricket Club Juniors on behalf of A’ida Shaw and with the permission of her family.
The ANU Cricket Club Juniors is a local junior cricket club in Canberra. A’ida’s sister Evelyn has been an integral part of the ANUCC Juniors family for the past 3 years.
Her family is our family and we hope that this fundraiser can provide these beautiful people with the necessary resources so that they never have to choose between work and being by A’ida’s side in this critical time.
Your generous contributions will be used to cover a range of essential expenses including medical bills, travel costs, and daily living expenses (to name a few).
All funds raised will go directly to the Shaw family.
