On Father’s Day, Shawn Braswell passed away unexpectedly leaving behind his wife of 13 years Chanda and four children Aiyanna, Christopher, Shaynna, and Aidan, as well as a host of friends and family.
Over the past several months, Shawn had been dedicated to homeschooling his youngest child Aidan. After navigating years of educating an autistic child, Chanda and Shawn had finally found the right balance when Shawn took up the charge of homeschooling Aidan during the nationwide pandemic. Shawn effortlessly worked one-on-one with Aidan successfully teaching him multiplication, exploring the solar system, and memorizing the first 25 presidents of the U.S. It didn’t take long before the benefits of one-on-one tutelage showed in Aidan’s comprehension of lessons that once challenged him. So, Shawn and Chanda decided that they would work with Aidan for the next two years to bring him to grade level through homeschooling.
Shawn’s untimely death has brought emotional pain, stress, and financial uncertainties, specifically those related to Aidan’s educational needs. As an independent business owner with underlying medical conditions, Shawn was unable to obtain a life insurance policy that would have provided for Aidan’s educational expenses. As such, family and loved ones are coming together to help Chanda raise money for Aidan’s continued personalized educational needs.
At the onset of the nationwide quarantine, many schools adopted a virtual learning environment. In the upcoming school year, schools across the nation will continue this model. This presented and will continue to present challenges for teachers and students alike. However, for students with individual education plans, like Aidan, learning within the virtual environment is both stressful and counterproductive. Aidan's Angels GoFundMe campaign will allow Chanda to hire a tutor to work alongside her in providing tailored mentoring and education that will optimize Aidan's learning. Additionally, Chanda would like to obtain an autism service dog that will help Aidan gain independence, assist him with performing activities of daily living similar to anyone else, and recognize and gently help de-escalate his emotional meltdowns.
It is in these times of loss and sadness when people must come together to help one another make it through. We are grateful for everyone’s continued thoughts and prayers. We are also thankful for any financial support you may be able to provide.
