Another surgery set back and more time in the hospital. I absolutely hate asking for help, I know that most people have a hard time and have their own troubles but under the circumstances, we need help.
Zach had surgery on July 25th to remove a cyst on his spine that was compressing his spinal cord and causing a lot of neurological symptoms. They did surgery by going in through the front of his neck, removed 2 vertebrae out of his spinal column, removed the cyst, sealed his spinal canal, placed cadavers to replace the vertebrae, then placed a plate and screws to hold it all together. This also required draining tubes that had him under ICU care. Two days later, they had to go back in and take everything back out and repair a spinal fluid leak and then put him back together. His dura (the membrane surrounding his spinal cord) is very thin. They have a lower lumbar drain draining spinal fluid out to keep the pressure down, in hopes that it will heal. We spent 18 days in the ICU. Went home for a few days and now back in the hospital. He is still having issues with a leak and looking at surgery again on Monday.
Update: Zach had surgery on Monday and is looking at another week in the ICU. Hoping the Spinal fluid leak stays sealed and he can heal. Still a long road of recovery.
All of this is way more than anticipated and really puts us in a financial burden. I haven’t been able to work in order to be by his side through this. We appreciate any help even if it’s just sharing this with someone who can. And please pray for Zach ❤️
