Aid Tyler Bennett's Journey After Accident
Donation protected
What was meant to be a decompress Sunday with the boys to celebrate an upcoming 30th birthday, turned un -expected tragedy. This past Sunday my fiancé and father to our 2 year old daughter, Tyler Bennett got into a horrible dirt bike accident, hitting a tree, leaving him with two compound fractures in both of his wrists. There was exposed bone at the site of the injury on his right wrist and left wrist pretty mangled, as well as an laceration across his neck from the chin strap on his helmet which saved his life.
Doctors confirmed that there is dirt, and wood imbedded in his bone. Tyler has already under gone multiple surgeries to clean out the wound before having two major surgeries on both of his wrists. There is no possibility for reconstruction. Doctors main goal currently is to prevent infection from the exposed wounds. Preventing infection and cleaning out the wound is priority but there is always the chance that he could possible loose his right hand if infection presents.
They will have to remove dead bone from both wrists and a possible bone fusion. Either way there will be a lot of plates and screws going into both wrists and a long road to recovery.
As a man who earns an honest living with his hands we can't imagine the rough road ahead as he has to learn with new mobility and limitations.
Tylers character is one who will do ANYTHING for the ones he love. he's the guy everyone calls when things need fixing and rarely asks for help. He's incredibly bright, genuine heart and one of the strongest hardworking people I know. He enjoys an active life; surfing, riding motorcycles, dirt bikes and wrenching on projects. It saddens him to think that his limitations may not allow him to share these passions with his daughter.
Our family runs completely off self earned income. I am an artist and he is a metal fabracator. We have both put ALL of our energy into sustaining and growing our business, these past few months were an exhaustion of effort on both parts to set things in place for our family. We are blind sighted with this accident putting us in financial uncertainty.
Reaching out to our community and whom ever is in a position to help as we transition these coming months, as Tyler takes the time needed to recover and learns how to adapt with his new mobility.
