Aid Travis: Safe Sensory Relief Needed
Hello, my name is Travis Farmer, and I am autistic. I am hyposensory, sensory-seeking, so I require sensory stimulation in order to emotionally regulate. I am 45 years old but unemployed due to too many on-the-job meltdowns from the job being too overwhelming. I have been in a mental hospital 3 times now, once for a meltdown with suicidal thoughts, and twice for suicidal thoughts.
My current method of regulating strong emotions is either listening to very loud music, which is bad for my ears, or by taking a medication that is a sedative when it gets too strong. The loud music has the risk of making me deaf, and the sedative has a host of side effects if taken too frequently.
It has been recommended to me to try a Meta VR Headset, something I know very little about but have heard that it helps provide visual stimulation with an immersive experience. I think this may really aid me, and possibly reduce my meltdown frequency. Also, I am socially isolated, with no in-person friends. It is my hope that this device will also help me bridge my social anxiety, allowing more interaction.
All money donated will go toward a Meta Quest 3S, accessories, games/apps, and any required subscriptions. If the unexpected happens, and donations far exceed what is needed, I will donate what isn't needed for the VR headset to an autism charity of my choosing (still researching best recipient). None of the money will be used for personal gain, or unrelated items.
