Caden is a young teen who has a rare metabolic disease called Tyrosinemia Type 1. This has resulted in liver cancer, a liver transplant, and being the only one (that Doctors are aware of) in the world who still has tyrosinemia type 1 post-transplant.
Caden has a low protein diet that he is ironically also anaphylactic to foods high in protein. With his very limited diet, mealtimes are tricky especially while traveling, so cooking our own food is usually the most safe route.
Caden has mast cell colitis and EOE disease, however, due to 40 HBOT dives, a plant based diet, and change in medications, he’s been in remission of EOE for 1 year now and is off relying on Neocate formula.
As we enjoy improvement of some medical issues, as of 2/19/25, we seem to add some. Atleast this time it’s very common for children & adults everywhere and easily treated.
Caden was just diagnosed this week with asthma, something we had no clue was an issue with him since he’s had no issues with breathing tests. X-rays however, showed otherwise.
Caden wants to continue with his active lifestyle so new medications and breathing treatments he will begin in a week and that should help Caden no longer be so short of breath.
It turns out that the south is full of allergens and triggers for asthma & allergy sufferers, something Caden didn’t experience when we lived in Colorado…
Due to being an active duty military family, Caden is moved from state to state and experiencing various other children’s hospitals across the country, we have found his Medical Team at Denver Childrens in Aurora is the best fit for us. We found the most consistent careful care with Dr. Baker’s metabolic team and his unique metabolic care of such an already rare disease.
We are resuming care back to Denver CO as of Spring 2025. Traveling costs add up! On top of our out of pocket medical expenses until we hit our “cap” with Tricare select.
Although we have been able to have an extended family member graciously donate airline points to fly us (just Caden & Mom) out to Caden’s appointments, we no longer live in colorado and so we have the additional costs of a hotel & transportation to work out.
A rental car for 1 week with hertz runs right about $500-$600 with taxes & fees.
the Hyatt hotel right outside hospital is $165/night with taxes and fees.
There are many other financial details we are working out, but as of now, transportation & hotel is the biggest expense to us. Any help certainly takes an immense weight off of us from financial burden of credit card debt & interest rates in costs to spend a week in Colorado for Caden’s medical care.
We leave for Colorado in just 2 short weeks on 3/11/25
