Backstory

My name is Tuffy and I am setting up this gofundme to help support two of the most honest and hardworking, good hearted people that I have the pleasure of knowing. Let me introduce you to Jesse and Tricia Boyes. They are Bay Area Natives living in West Oakland, Ca. Jesse has been a local business owner for 11 years. Tricia is a veterinary Technician for a Specialized Surgery Veterinary Practice in Berkeley. They have two wonderful lovey rescue dogs, Charlotte and Lilikoi. And most exciting, is the baby girl that will be joining them soon.


But what should be an wonderful time of focusing on the arrival of the baby girl, is now being spent on mold eradication and civil court mediation.


Over the past 4 to 5 years they have had the same landlord, in two different units and  they have encountered numerous damaging issues to their home. They have endured midwinter flooding, rodent infestations, property damage, and now mold. What was supposed to be the baby’s nursery is completely mold infested. All of the babies items have had to be completely removed from the room and relocated into storage elsewhere to avoid further contamination from the mold. The items they do have, will have to be cleaned and treated as well. Until the mold can be eradicated, they are forced to stay elsewhere post delivery. Even so, it will endanger the baby to expose it to any mold, or further issues of negligence on behalf of the landlord. Furthermore, while they have made a wonderful home of the sometimes difficult, but now unsafe property, their house is located on a street in Oakland that does not lack for crime, homelessness and mental illness in the compromised homeless population. They have been saving and now the time has come, they need to relocate and want to do so permanently. But they need a little support!


How to help

Their entire life is here in the Bay Area. Their friends, family, business/work, and community are all here, and they want to stay. Their goal is to find a permanent solution to their living situation. Their close friends and family have urged them to seek support and they hope their loved ones and extended community would find it in their hearts to support them. Their objective is to reach their goal for a down payment for an affordable home here in the Bay Area. Their goal is to reach $10,000.00 to make the last push to starting the buying process which can take weeks. The funds will also be used for expenses in the interim, for specialty disinfecting of the babies items, and temporary re-homing costs which the landlord is not providing during the mold eradication at the current house. 


Why?

This is your opportunity to make a direct action towards keeping another family from being displaced by the hiked rental trend that has hit Oakland and the Bay Area so hard over the last decade. They have built their home here in the Bay and they want to remain, but in a place that their daughter can grow up, healthy and safe. And in a community that they love and cherish and are active participants in.


Appreciation

We all know families, or have loved ones that have been displaced by rising markets rates and the massive influx of people flocking to the area for work in various high-earning industries. And we all know someone who has been victim of a predatory and non compliant slumlord. At the encouragement of their closest loved ones, they have agreed to let us ask for help on their behalf, which is a difficult thing to do. They have worked extremely hard to make a beautiful life together. They realize that reaching out for help is not just being vulnerable, it is also allowing for their community to have the opportunity to help if at all possible.
