Thank you for visiting our page about Tilly, the large dog found lost in the Tillamook State Forest in June 2025. We've had many people reach out and ask how they can help, so we've decided to set up this page to help cover her medical expenses. While hiking in the Tillamook State Forest in NW Oregon, my colleagues and I had planned to do some scouting work for the Salmonberry Trail. As we drove up the gravel road, our colleague in the back seat said, "Hey guys, stop, I just saw a big white dog hiding in the bushes. This is miles away from any town or city, and there was no reason for a dog to be out in this area. We spent the next hour working to tempt the dog towards us slowly. It appeared to be very frail, scared, and possibly lost or abandoned. Finally, with a lot of patience and the help of some very smelly (and delicious) Salmon Jerky, we were able to get the dog close enough to put a leash around it. As we approached the car, the dog lunged and ran away. We did not give up. The dog was dangerously thin, tired, and had little energy to spare. Leaving her alone in the forest was not an option for us. Luckily, she slowed down soon, allowing us to secure the leash again and willingly followed us to the car, where we were able to pick her up and place her in the front seat. We called the two county shelters to report the missing dog and to find out if a reported lost large white dog had been logged. We were able to get her checked at the local vet for a microchip, but there was no chip and no reports of a missing dog. The next day, we found a local vet with an opening for a check-up, and we wanted to ensure the dog was not severely ill or harmed. We discovered that she was a girl, likely young, and was in decent shape, but very underweight. The veterinarian thought she had been alone in the woods for six to eight weeks or more, and likely dumped. Our plan of action today is to continue to care for her for 90 days or until someone comes forward and proves ownership. She is gaining weight at a safe pace, walks on a leash, and mainly sleeps outside. She would not drink water but loved coffee. Now, she is drinking water and goes on a walk every day, each day a little bit further. She is the sweetest big dog and will put her head on your lap waiting for pets, and does that over and over. She will also steal any food left out and has no problem putting paws on the counter. Something we are working on. Tilly has a good community watching over her, consisting of four families who share in the responsibilities of walking, purchasing dog food and treats, and bathing. Her white fur gets dirty quickly. We have a second veterinary appointment in late July. If she is in good health, she will receive her complete set of vaccinations and then undergo spaying. We've created this GoFundMe page to help cover her veterinary care expenses. She goes to the Banks Veterinary Clinic in Banks, Oregon. We, and Tilly, appreciate your support.
