Hello, my name is Thomas Sawyer. I’m a 72-year-old veteran from Mobile, Alabama. I’ve spent my life serving my country, working hard, and caring for others. Now, I’m in the final stages of a long battle with stage 4 lung, bone, and spine cancer. I’ve been receiving treatment at the Mitchell Cancer Institute for over 12 years, but my doctors recently had to stop chemotherapy as my body could no longer handle it.
As my health declined, I asked a relative, my niece, to come from Dallas, Texas, to help me with my end-of-life arrangements. Sadly, instead of helping, she took advantage of my trust. She stole $10,000 from my bank account and even added her 18-year-old daughter to my account and will — without my consent. I’ve since learned this is considered elder financial abuse.
Thanks to the kindness of a local funeral director, I’ve received help getting my funeral arrangements started, but I’m still facing many financial hardships. I’m asking for your help so I can cover my remaining medical bills, living costs, and funeral expenses with dignity.
No veteran, or anyone, should have to endure this kind of betrayal and hardship in their final days. Any donation — no matter how small — or even a simple share of this campaign can make a difference.
Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your support during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Thomas Sawyer
