Help the Workman Family After Hurricane Helene

Donation protected

hi!
First- praise God everyone is safe.
I'm reaching out to ask for your support for members of the Workman family—my uncle Todd, Aunt Ann, and cousins Annie, Andrew, and Whitney—who have been devastated by the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene in Boone, NC.

The family has lost nearly everything. The apartment they were renting was flooded, destroying their clothes, toys, furniture, and other belongings. They also lost two vehicles—one was found in a field, and the other is still missing.

Annie and Andrew had to be rescued by the fire department as the floodwaters rose rapidly. Right now, four of them are living in a Red Cross shelter. Thankfully, they are safe, but they only have a change of clothes and little else.
(Todd, Ann, Annie, and Andrew with my grandson Ben at his 1 year birthday. )

While the Workmans still own a home in Columbia, NC, it’s currently rented out. They’ve been living in Boone so Annie can attend Appalachian State University, and Ann can continue working at a care facility.

Unfortunately, they didn't have renters insurance or full coverage on the vehicles to cover these losses. Annie also lost essential school equipment. The flood was so intense that all the windows in their apartment were blown out, and their mattress ended up outside (my guess is the back of the house is now missing a wall, because I have no idea how that mattress left their bedroom any other way). They are hopeful to eventually be allowed in to see if they can find sentimental momentos, but those may be gone, too. The house itself shifted off its foundation, leaving a huge crater in the yard. It’s hard to imagine the scale of destruction, but the Red Cross shelter they’re staying in is safe and clean, and thankfully they still have one vehicle that wasn’t at home.

While many people were affected by this catastrophic event, we are asking for your help to directly support the Workman family. Any donation you can provide will help them cover immediate needs such as clothing, food, finding a new place to rent, and transportation. All funds raised will go directly to the Workmans to help them rebuild their lives after this disaster.

In addition, if you are able, please consider making a donation to the Red Cross, which has been instrumental in providing emergency shelter and support to those impacted.

I will be collecting the money directly through GoFundMe or in person if you wish. I can also accept Venmo and Apple Pay to reduce the fundraising fees (3%) that are incurred by the recipients, not the donors.

its still early to figure out exactly how the funds will be used, but a rough idea is at least one used vehicle will be needed, a few changes of clothes from a store or thrift store, funds for down payment on a new apartment (assuming one can be found in the area), food, meds, mattresses, linens, etc. This a near total loss for them. But- God is good.

Thank you so much for your generosity and for helping the Workman family during this difficult time.

Todd’s car was found in a field/ on a tree about 1000 feet away. The Chevy hasn’t been found yet.
The house (their apartment was the bottom floor) was shifted off its foundation. They weren’t able to look out back but I bet the back wall is gone because Todd and Ann’s bed is in a field)

They are staying in a hallway in the basketball stadium at ASU/Red Cross.
