So, many of you know of my family's recent tribulations of my mother losing her home via a fire that jumped the street from an adjacent property this past Friday. If you don't know, my mother just had the rug ripped out from underneath her this last Friday when her house caught fire. It was due to an accidental getaway fire by her neighbors, who lost their entire home (our hearts go out to them, too). The past two days have been a surreal hellscape that I never thought we'd ever experience. With that being said, it brings me back to something that was explained to me during a time when we were experiencing a lot of changes at my work, and it is so true, and still rings true during life-changing events.
They say that when we experience these types of life-changing events, we go through the same emotions as one would when you lose a loved one. It is a 3-step mourning process: shock/denial, despair/anger, and acceptance/recovery. We'll get through it together and hopefully come out stronger for it.
We are expecting it to take over a year before our mother is able to return home. We are still working with insurance and all of that, but we are asking if anyone is willing and able to assist us during this horrific time. All of the funds will go towards housing and needs that come up only from this disaster.
Thanks to all who assisted us during our time of despair and need.
Humbly, the Kofoed Family.
