Please help in supporting Damen, Aleece, and their 3 children. Having been first diagnosed at the age of 18, Damen has been fighting for more than half of his life with End-Stage Liver Failure. He received his first liver transplant in 2007. A second liver transplant was needed in 2014 after the first transplanted liver failed. Now he has been fighting for his life for the last 3 years as his liver has failed him yet again. He has been fighting and waiting for a third liver transplant, spending more time in the hospital than at home. After his most recent stay in the hospital with many complications, Damen has decided to prioritize quality of life above quantity of life. Effective as of January 16th, Damen is now a home hospice patient. He is no longer receiving any life-sustaining treatments, has stopped most of his medications, and is not pursuing a third liver transplant. He has felt more peace with this decision than can be expressed. He will be surrounded by his loving family, including their children (ages 3, 8, and 11), as he faces the end of his life, on his own terms. Aleece says, “Damen is not scared. He has experienced a huge weight lifted as he has come to accept this is the path the Lord has for him. He is at peace. He understands that his mortal body limits his ability to parent, serve, and live as he wants to.”
As one can imagine, the hospital bills and hidden costs (time off work, travel costs, particular foods, medicines not covered, etc) during these long years have been crippling, and they have piled up into a very large sum. Now they are faced with the looming expenses of a funeral, with hardly any life insurance (due to medical denials of coverage). The financial obligations are a crushing weight to Aleece, as she tries to provide for the family, and take care of her grieving children.
Please consider donating to the Geisler family during this difficult time. If you would prefer to donate personally, Aleece has a Venmo account, @AleeceGeisler. If you cannot donate, please share this link if you can. The family is so appreciative of all of the thoughts, prayers, and service that they have received during this trying time. Thank you all for your love and support.
