I'm writing this letter on behalf of our Mamaw (Pat Bailey), our aunt (Brenda Rains) and Papaw (Darrell "Beetle" Bailey). One week ago, the house my grandparents shared for 15 years caught fire and most of their possessions were destroyed. Although the house is a total loss, we are trying to preserve as many of those memories as possible.
Many people will recognize our Papaw's name because he worked as a firefighter in Anderson, Indiana for 27 years. Although he passed away a few years ago, the house still remained a place our family would share memories with one another. Unfortunately, many of our Papaw's things will need professionally cleaned if they are salvageable at all.
All of Mamaw's possessions were affected as well. We are trying our best to clean what we can. If you know my Mamaw, then you know that she is one of the kindest people alive. She would do anything for anyone. She worked for Miller's Merry Manor nursing home and St. John's hospital for several years.
Our aunt has always been there for our grandparents. She has lived there for many years and continues to help my Mamaw daily. She has worked for the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Hoosier Park, and currently at NTN.
We are learning every day that less and less will be covered by insurance. Our Mamaw will be receiving less than half of what the house was worth. In addition, she was told that she would have to pay $7000 to have the home demolished. She will need to replace nearly all of her possessions as well.
Every piece of furniture was affected by smoke damage, and we were told that most of it can not be cleaned. Some of this furniture was made by our Papaw, so we will do our best to preserve it though. The items that we hope to salvage will need professionally cleaned. These items I speak of belonged to our Mamaw, Papaw, and Aunt mostly, although we all have our memories in that home.
We would not be asking for help if it wasn't for such extreme circumstances. We would appreciate any help at this point whether monetary or otherwise. We have so much to do.
Thank you so much.
The Bailey family.
***My hope is to surprise my Mamaw and Aunt Brenda. We set up an account in my aunt's name (Cindy Day) and my father (Jerry Bailey). All donations will be given directly to my Mamaw and Aunt Brenda when we are finished. Thank you so much.
