Tanya’s Road to getting a Liver Transplant
Donation protected
The reason for the GoFundMe page is to help my elderly parents commute from the Hopi reservation to California and in the future: to Oregon. The fund would go toward boarding their dog and my dog Bella. My parents have been taking care of Bella since I’ve been hospitalized. Additionally, funds would help them provide my dog with dog food and veterinarian appointments if needed for vaccine updates. They come to be here with me to cheer me up, help around the house and spend time with their youngest grandchild.
A little about myself:
My name is Tanya (Talashie). I come from the Hopi and Lakota tribes. I’d like to believe I know where I come from. I grew up on the Hopi reservation in Arizona – where my father is from. My mother the Lakota woman from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North and South Dakota.
I joined the US Marine Corps in 1997. Initially I was based at Parris Island, South Carolina. After that I went on to schooling in North Carolina, then off to my duty station aboard MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. My father was also stationed at Camp Pendleton during his time in the Corps. I spent a lot of my time down on 32nd Naval Station. I was the NCOIC, sometimes SNCOIC of the LFORM lot as well as the IIP Warehouse making sure my HAZMAT was on loaded and off loaded the Naval Assault ships. I started developing a heart condition but went on to become the Pool Program Coordination at RS Phoenix, my last place on active duty.
I have 2 sons whom are in the medical fields. One is a Organ Recovery Specialist and the other is a Stem Cell researcher. Also I have 1 daughter who is 10 years old, she is Autistic.
To date, I have received 14 surgeries including 4 on my heart which is why I was medically retired out the Corps. Now I am 100% P&T w/SMC by the VA.
My liver started having up and down enzyme counts. To top it off I also have RA, Fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions.
I was in the ICU at the Veterans Medical Center La Jolla, California for nearly a month. I desperately need a Liver Transplant surgery. This is the only way I can live as healthy as I can. Currently I am waiting to be flown up to Oregon VAMC where the surgery would take place.
08/28/24 Update:
I was a direct discharged from the hospital on 08/27. I can’t afford to get sick again so instead of doing step down they decided to do the direct discharge. I still have a very long road ahead of me, but I am ready to fight like my life depends on it. We are still taking donations because my parents are no longer able to use HeroMiles since I was discharged from the hospital. They still want to come to help out however they can. Family always cheers me up. It’s going to be nice to see them soon and not be in the hospital setting. I was discharged having to take 14 pills a day. My body needs them to stay alive. I will keep y’all posted again soon! ❤️
Please if you can contribute in anyway I’d greatly appreciate it. Askwali. ❤️ Thank you.
