As some of you are aware, our friend Dan passed away recently due to complications resulting from long-term, chronic health difficulties.

Daniel Sanicky was a loving partner, brother, friend, and member of our community. His loss has been felt deeply, especially by those who knew him best.

Two of Dan’s closest friends, Mario and Taj, have worked tirelessly these past few weeks in coordination with Dan’s out-of-state family members to ensure Dan’s things are in order, to clear his apartment and allocate his belongings appropriately, and to organize memorial services and other logistical details related to his sudden, unexpected passing.

In prior months, Mario had offered significant support with expenses related to Dan’s ongoing health struggles, with the understanding that full or partial repayment for these up-front costs would be negotiated at a later time when Dan’s basic functionality became less impeded by his illness. As a result of this compassionate gesture, Mario is now unfortunately responsible for some large medical bills and other costs associated with Dan’s care.

As an acknowledgment of her kindness and generosity throughout the grieving process as well as her important role in Dan’s life, Taj was gifted Dan’s truck by his mother and other surviving family members. Unfortunately, we have only recently discovered that, likely as a byproduct of the executive dysfunction he had been experiencing related to his illness, Dan’s registration and insurance had lapsed, he had several unresolved parking violations, and had also failed to make required repairs to the body of the vehicle, including to the mirrors and tail lights. As a result, the truck has been impounded and can’t be retrieved until the costs associated with these various issues have been resolved.

Taj hasn’t owned a vehicle in over three years and having one would greatly improve her quality of life, so if possible, we would very much like to help compensate her for her time and energy this month by helping to pay the delinquent registration fees and other costs associated with getting Dan’s truck out of impound and returning it to Taj as Dan’s family had originally intended.

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by all the help we’ve already received from Dan’s friends, family, and community in the wake of this devastating tragedy. Dan was a generous, caring, funny, compassionate human being who was widely known and deeply beloved by many, many people. We couldn’t have made it through all this without you and deeply appreciate your continuing dedication and support.
