Aid Sydonnie's Journey to Recovery

Hi, my name is Sydonnie Harper and I'm a 37-year-old single mom of one. In August 2024, I discovered a lump in my right breast just below my armpit. I had a few check-ups and tests done, which indicated that the lump looked suspicious and that I needed a biopsy to further test its state. I was referred to the general hospital by a private doctor to have my situation looked at immediately due to my age (36). After being examined and checked, it was decided by the doctors and myself to have the lump removed based on its location, how it felt, and how it looked. So, a small surgical procedure (lumpectomy) was done to remove the mass and to be sent for testing. When the results came back, the lump tested positive for HER2+ carcinoma. Hearing that news shocked me; I became numb and was unable to cry. It was at that moment that my life got the unexpected curveball thrown in my direction.

At the start of 2025 (January), I was getting ready to have chemotherapy, and when I got my first of 6 doses at the end of January 2025, I was hit with the worst feelings anyone could possibly feel. I started to lose my hair as well as lose weight. After that first dose of treatment, I really contemplated not continuing as I was not liking the way I was feeling and not being able to help myself or my daughter. However, I pushed through it for the sake of my daughter and the fact that I want to live and come out victorious from the disease.

After completing all 6 treatments by July 2025, I was starting to feel some normalcy within my body. Though I wasn't 100%, I was just grateful that part of the treatment was over. Now, the other treatment that is recommended is a mastectomy of the right and possibly the left due to the aggressiveness of the type of cancer that I was diagnosed with. I'm very much scared of doing the surgery as I would be losing my breast, and I'm still a young woman with the hopes to locate my husband soon. So, reconstruction of the breast was suggested to me, and I was more favorable on doing the surgery in that regard. The cost of the surgery will be just about $4000 USD, which is just over half a million JMD dollars.

So, I'm asking for some assistance in raising the fund to do the surgery on both breasts. Surgery date is set/scheduled to be the second week of February 2026 at KPH. Whatever you are able to give will be greatly appreciated with thanks.

Blessings.
