My name is Kristy and I am trying to help my sister, Sonya. She is 47 years old and has been recently diagnosed with bone cancer. She is a long-time resident of Siskiyou County and has helped many out in their time of need. She was once spunky, energetic, and a super funny soul, fun to be around, and loved by many. Cancer has slowly been taking over her, and fast. This is a terrible disease. Sonya thought she had pain in her shoulder due to running into a truck mirror. So she let the pain go for a while. Then she couldn't take the pain anymore because, like many, she thought it would go away. Once checked out by MRI, they found it to be bone cancer and that it was quickly spreading. Her care team sent her to UC Davis in Sacramento, which is four hours from home and her loved ones. Her treatment will consist of radiation and chemo with trips up to 10 days at a time. Sadly, Sonya is not able to work at this time.So it's also hard to pay rent have other bills as well as food for herself on a special diet.Her expenses are way more than she can afford. Her cancer case worker, friends, and family can only help so much. This will only be the start of what's to come. At UC Davis, she will need money for housing, food, gas money to and from home, and maybe a hotel in between, as these treatments are painful and extremely exhausting. Insurance will not cover housing for treatment while she is at UC Davis. She will only qualify for so much. Please, if you can't afford to donate, we understand.
