Hi Everyone,
My name is Veronica and I am hoping to raise money to help our mom pay for the medical expenses of my sister, Sonia, after she experienced a rapid and unexpected onset of psychosis and mania. As we know, mental health is such a taboo topic in our society, but also very relevant and real. My sister, Sonia, was in and out of psychiatric holds after her onset of psychosis and mania on June 1st, 2024, attended various programs, undergone various treatment modalities, seen multiple healthcare professionals, with an eventual diagnosis of Schizoaffective Bipolar Type 1. We had no previous warnings, as she had only suffered from previous social anxiety that she overcame & had recently finished college, passing her boards a few weeks before her onset. Our mom is a single mother who, naturally as mothers do, took on the responsibility of getting my sister all the resources and care she needed, no matter the cost. This diagnosis has flipped our world upside down and has caused a financial burden for our mom as she continues struggling to pay off medical expenses, new private insurance, and treatment for Sonia so she can continue to stabilize and get the support she needs. Currently, Sonia has been stable enough to be home with our mom & has put in the work to make leaps & bounds, but the work still continues in trying to get her life back on track.
Here are a few things everyone should know about Sonia:
- She is extremely kind, thoughtful, and has a wickedly smart sense of humor.
- She has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and had passed her Boards prior to her onset/diagnosis.
- Sonia was one of those people who knew a lot about A LOT (we all know someone like this and it’s awesome talking to them).
- She has a family behind her who loves her and is supporting her through this life-changing event.
If you have anything to spare, we would really appreciate it. Prayers would also be just as wonderful! Anything truly helps. Thank you for opening your hearts to help someone in need in a country where affordable and great mental health resources come at such a cost. To everyone helping us through this journey, we feel the love and support. THANK YOU! I hope and pray you are rewarded ten-fold.
