Aid Hassan & Sokrey: Battle a kidney crisis and hardships

Donation protected
Hassan and Sokrey Aden-Abdi’s story is one of resilience, love, and hope. Originally from Somalia, they each arrived in Alaska separately as refugees in 2015, traveling thousands of miles from Ethiopia and Kenya to Anchorage in search of safety and opportunity. It was here they met, fell in love, and began building a life together.

Today, they are parents to five young children under the age of seven. The youngest was just born in January of this year. But their journey has taken a devastating turn.

Hassan, a dedicated employee at Charlie’s Produce and a committed volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, recently went into sudden kidney failure. Once working tirelessly toward earning their own Habitat home, Hassan and Sokrey’s dream is now on hold as their family faces an urgent medical and financial crisis. Without a kidney transplant, Hassan’s life is at risk. His upcoming meeting with the National Kidney Foundation highlights the urgency of his situation.

Sokrey’s strength in the face of adversity is remarkable, but her struggles are immense. She is raising their children while enduring the effects of a childhood injury inflicted by the violence of Al-Shabaab. Her shattered knee, which she has endured for years, now threatens her mobility entirely. Several doctors agree that an amputation may be the only option.

Adding to their challenges, their six-year-old son, Najib, is autistic, requiring specialized care and attention. And with Hassan unable to work, the family is now entirely dependent on government assistance for their survival.

Despite these overwhelming hardships, Sokrey and Hassan remain optimistic—because they have to. They hold tightly to hope for a brighter future for their children, but they can’t do it alone.

This is where you come in. Your donation can help Sokrey and Hassan keep their family afloat during this difficult time. It can provide immediate relief for basic needs like housing, food, and medical care, while giving them the support they need to fight for their future.

Your generosity can be the lifeline this family so desperately needs. Together, we can show them they are not alone, even in their darkest hour.
