Aid Shirley Through Her Grief Journey

On May 15, 2025, our beloved colleague and friend Shirley Cohen experienced an unimaginable loss. She returned home to find her only daughter, Hannah, had passed away. While Hannah was a true warrior—overcoming childhood cancer and bravely facing continued medical challenges—her passing was sudden, heartbreaking, and unexpected.

Shirley has been a dedicated member of the Chattanooga State Nursing faculty since 2013. She has touched countless lives with her compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to her students and profession. Now, it's our turn to give back to someone who has given so much to others.

No mother should have to endure the pain of losing a child. As Shirley navigates the overwhelming grief of this devastating loss, we hope to ease some of the burdens she faces in the days ahead. This fundraiser will help cover:

Funeral and memorial expenses
Food and basic needs (so she doesn't need to worry about cooking or errands)
Lost wages from time away from work
Any other unexpected costs that arise during this difficult time
