Never in a million years did I think I’d be doing this again.
As some of you know, Ben lost his job back in September and we have been dependent on my income alone. His unemployment will run out soon, and with everything being so expensive it’s been hard to keep up. Which is why I am asking for help this time.
Five years ago, I had to start a GoFundMe to help Sherlock get a foreign object removed surgically. At that time, they couldn’t get it out, and we ended up spending roughly $6,000. We consulted a specialist back then, who told me that Sherlock’s vomiting was due to an allergy, not the foreign object, and that it wasn’t the reason he couldn’t keep his food down. They told us we didn’t need to worry about the object.
Fast forward five years... We now have insurance, but it has a $7,500 cap. In December, during Sherlock’s annual check-up, we were preparing him for a dental procedure when we noticed his liver values were elevated. We ran a Cushing’s test, which came back negative, and his primary vet referred us to a specialist. That appointment took place last Wednesday, where they ran additional tests and admitted him for an infection in his liver. Later that night, I was told that he needed surgery, and they confirmed that the infection was caused by the foreign object from when he was just 10 months old.
The bill from Wednesday came to $3,919.67, and on Friday morning, I had to put down a deposit of $7,874.98 for his surgery. While we were aware of the $7,500 cap on our insurance, we had hoped it wouldn't come to that—but I’m so thankful we have it now.
Yesterday, during Sherlock’s surgery, he encountered some complications, but thankfully, he pulled through and is stable now. However, because of those complications, we know that our final bill will be higher than expected.
Ben and I are humbly asking if you would consider helping us during this difficult time so we can continue to provide the care Sherlock and our other babies need.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
