Join Sherilyn's Fight for their Future

I want to share my daughter Sherilyn's incredible story of tragedy and triumph. In August of 2023, Sherilyn and her husband Gabe were overjoyed to learn she was pregnant with their first baby. A few weeks later, we received the devastating news that Sherilyn had a very rare and aggressive form of triple negative ductual carcinoma breast cancer. Our lives changed in an instant, the prognosis was terrifying and quite grim. Because this is so rare Sherilyn was referred to MUSC due to having cancer and being pregnant, she immediately started aggressive chemotherapy. The fight for both my daughter and grandson's lives began.

3 weeks after her first chemo came the heartbreaking moment to shave her head. Surprisingly it ended up being some of our most cherished memories together. Each of us taking a turn with the hair clippers. She looked beautiful!

Sherilyn persevered and continued to work at her salon for the next 4 months. Her clients outpouring of love and support helped lift her spirits while she worked. Each day the chemo wore down her body and depleted her strength, being pregnant, she was facing mulitiple issues at the same time. My heart was breaking watching her but I was also in awe of her determination. In January, with trips to the ER, being weak physically and emotionally, the decision was made to step away from the salon for a few months.

Due to immense stress on her body and heart on February 13th, and 7 weeks early, Micah made a surprise entrance into our lives! Our precious boy is a true miracle. He fought through months of aggressive chemo and came out our Mighty Little Warrior. The joy of this healthy baby lessened all the stress and sadness. He finally came home after 3 weeks in the NICU. He is now 6 months old and is healthy and thriving. Our God is a God of miracles!

On March 12th, my Mom, Sherilyn's Grandmother, and Micah's Great Nannny passed away unexpectedly. She prayed for Micah and for Sherilyn's healing eveyday. Losing her was extremely difficult on the entire family. Thankfully, she was able to meet Micah. Nana was a cornerstone in our family and she is greatly missed.

The next challenge was managing weekly chemo treatments as a new mom. Juggling intense sickness, traveling 3 hours to lengthy treatments, a beautiful newborn baby, and all the that comes with it, was a lot for this new family. We all rallied around and supported them in anyway we could.

After 9 long months Sherilyn was finally able to ring the bell and end her chemotherapy treatments. We were so happy for this chapter to be over!

A few weeks ago Sherilyn had a radical bilateral double masectomy. She bravely faced an intense surgery, permanent physical changes, and a long and difficult recovery. One step closer to ending this cancer fight. Through it all God has been so good!

Anyone that knows Sherilyn, understands how special she is. She is truly one of a kind! Her compassion runs deep for those she loves and her generosity is apparent in her actions towards others. Sherilyn enjoys the outdoors, spending time on the river, and playing with her dogs. She looks forward to doing these things again. Her most cherished moments these days, is spending time with Micah. Through this journey I have watched as my kind hearted, thoughtful, and quite girl become a STRONG MIGHTY WARRIOR! I have never been more proud.

Her journey is not done yet. After almost a year of battling, Sherilyn still has 9 months of immunotherapy treatments and more surgeries. We never anticipated this to last this long. Raising funds for Sherilyn and her family will help ease the financial burden. They have had a significant loss of income due to her inability to work for the past 7 months and their resources have been depleted. Unfortunately, her future is uncertain with her career due to the events that have transpired. Funds will help with their mortgage, immunotherapy, bills, and traveling expenses. We are so grateful for those who have helped, loved, and supported Sherilyn through this time. Any donation amount will be appreciated and will help ease these stressful times so she can focus on getting well. If you can't give monetarily, please share her story and keep them in your prayers. There is hope and life after tragedy, and Sherilyn is living proof of that.
