Aid Shelly's Fight Against Stage 4 Cancer: Help her heal

Shelly Schagel-Brown has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer. As many know, Shelly battles the physical and financial hardships that come with this disease and has achieved a brief period of remission before learning her cancer has returned. She still has options for treatment that may improve the trajectory of her disease process, starting with another round of treatment while waiting for evaluation by the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She will need to travel to Houston where she can be evaluated by the nation's top-ranked providers in cancer treatment.

This opportunity for treatment comes at a cost, involving travel and housing expenses, as well as "out of network" challenges related to insurance coverage. Shelly's disease has taken her ability to work since her first few rounds of treatment and she is now on a fixed income. She wants to believe she will return to her work as a registered nurse, rejoining her colleagues and the patients they serve as she has done for over 35 years. She has raised three daughters as a single mom. Her youngest daughter is still a minor attending high school.
