Aid Shelley's Recovery After Tragic Fall
Donation protected
On Monday October 28, 2024, Dan and Shelley Beil arrived in Cancun, Mexico for a much-anticipated vacation together.
Just hours into their vacation, Shelley experienced a horrific fall from a five-foot break wall, leaving her critically injured. She sustained multiple injuries, including a traumatic aortic injury, fractures to her neck and dislocation/fracture to her back with the protentional of long-term paralysis.
Because of Shelley's condition, it was imperative to get her to a Miami trauma center for further evaluation, testing, and surgery as soon as possible.
To give Shelley the best care and outcome, Dan in a matter of a day had to come up with funds upfront to have her airlifted to Miami in the amount of $20,000. He also had to pay the hospital in Mexico $13,000 before leaving. Thankfully, they have travel insurance, but Dan must file the claim and pray the insurance will not deny the claim and cover all or most of the expenses.
Shelley arrived in Miami less than 40 hours from the time of her fall.
Her journey to recovery is just beginning. At this point, there will be a minimum of two surgeries in Miami. Once she is stable, she will be flown back to Ohio. It is unclear at this time if insurance will cover her flight back home.
Dan will not be leaving Shelley's side in Miami. For some time, he will not be able to work his part time job that they rely on for their monthly finances. The hospital does not have overnight accommodation, so Dan will be accruing hotel, food, and Uber expenses while there; as well as a flight home when the time comes.
They have health insurance but as we all know there are limits to coverage.
Dan has been a Paramedic for over 40 years and has touched countless lives in the city of Cleveland. He is a University Hospitals employee and UH family member.
I humbly ask, as Dan's friend and UH family member, to cover them both in prayer during this challenging time. Secondly, please consider donating to help offset the financial toll this is already taking on them. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Your help will ease Dan and Shelley's minds, so they can solely focus on Shelley's recovery.
I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read their story.
Dan is grateful for everyone's love, support, and prayers. He is taking it one day at a time and is one of the strongest people I know.
