Aid Shannon's Health: 70-Year-Old Walgreens Worker
Donation protected
My older sister, Shannon, is 70 years old and has worked for Walgreens for over 36 years. She is managing to survive—barely—on a very limited income from social security and a couple of days per week at Walgreens. She has always been one of my heroes because she has struggled with some learning disabilities and a myriad of health issues but has always been independent and worked so hard to make a life for herself. She should be retired by now but cannot afford to. And since going to a very part-time schedule, she gets no benefits from the company to help with her medical expenses, nor does she get paid time off or vacation days. Even with her Medicare, she has co-pays, and she can barely afford to pay her rent and utilities. She is always behind and struggling to keep up.
She is now having severe knee and back issues and is experiencing significant hearing loss and needs hearing aids. She was fitted for the hearing aids but has a $600 co-pay that she does not have. Without the hearing aids, she will likely not be able to continue working, and it is affecting her quality of life.
I am doing this fundraiser to pay her deductible to get her hearing aids, and to get some of her other medical co-pays covered so that she can have her knee issue addressed and get her ahead a little bit so that she isn't struggling with daily needs such as groceries and utilities. She is in a very tough spot right now and needs some help. She has managed to get by on her own for years, and I really want her to have some breathing room and lower her stress.
Thank you in advance for helping me help one of the strongest and sweetest people I have ever known.
