My name is Rocio Franco. I was recently accepted into the StoryBoard Conference & Festival to study under poet Maggie Smith this August. I'm reaching out to community for help. The conference tuition is $1495 (plus $100 for fees). Whatever assistance you can provide is appreciated. No amount is too small. I'm a Chicana poet from Chicago. I am a primarily self-taught poet, and opportunities like the StoryBoard Conference are a way I can improve my craft and build community. I started writing poetry in 2019 to cope with cancer survival. Since then, writing has been an instrumental way to transmute that painful experience into something that gives me purpose.
