My name is Richie, I have a rare genetic condition caused by a mutation in my TNFAIP3 gene. This gene helps regulate my immune system and inflammation. Because of the mutation, my immune system can overreact and cause symptoms like inflammation, pain, or even organ issues—kind of like it’s attacking my own body, even when I’m not sick. It’s rare and hard to diagnose, and it affects people differently. It mimics autoimmune diseases and I am in pain constantly. I have severe stomach pain, constant nausea and recurrent fevers, oral ulcers, joint pain, skin rashes and GI issues. I need to get to the Mayo Clinic to get a full diagnosis and begin much needed treatment because none of the doctors I’ve seen so far can figure out a solution for me to feel better because the TNFAIP3 gene is so rare.
