Emergency Fund for Cecilia’s Legal & Career Fight
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Cecilia.
I never thought I would be writing this, but life has taken an unexpected turn, and I find myself in a place I never imagined. For years, I dedicated my life to research—working tirelessly to help others, to make a difference, to build a future in a country I love. But recently, I was blindsided. I received a sudden “stop working”
notification from Columbia University, due to the current administration’s decision to cut over $400 million in research funding as retaliation for recent protests. Just like that, my livelihood was taken away, and my future was thrown into uncertainty.
But this isn’t just about me. My sister and I have been the primary providers for our parents, and this devastating news has shaken our entire family. We have always worked hard to support them, ensuring they have everything they need. Losing my job has put an enormous strain on us, making an already difficult situation even more overwhelming.
On top of that, I have two little ones depending on me—my beloved Birkin and Boomer. My fur babies bring me so much love and joy, but they also depend on me to provide for them. Right now, I’m struggling to figure out how to make ends meet, how to continue supporting my family, and how to get back on my feet in a time when research funding has dried up and opportunities feel impossible to find.
I have dedicated my life to helping people in vulnerable situations. Through my work, I have always tried to support those who needed it most. And today, I find myself on the other side—I am the one in need.
I am asking for your help—not just for me, but to support women in research and immigrants like me who are facing uncertainty. People who have worked hard, given their all, and just need a little support to get back on their feet.
I never ask for help, but today, I need it.
This is your chance to support someone who has always given her all, who has always believed in making the world a better place. Your donation will help me:
• Secure legal support for my residency process
• Rebuild my career and find a way forward in uncertain times.
• Cover basic living expenses while I navigate this transition.
• Continue supporting my family who relies on me.
• Invest in a small business idea that will allow me to stand on my own again and create new opportunities.
Even the smallest donation can make a difference. And if you’re unable to give, please share my story. Your kindness and generosity can truly change my life.
Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for giving me hope.
With love and gratitude,
Cecilia, Boomer & Birkin
