Aid Rebecca's Grandparents: House Fire - Complete Loss
Donation protected
My name is Rebecca, and this is my grandparents' home in Hudson, OH. On Friday night, April 11th, around 10 pm, a fire broke out in their home, which I believe started in the garage. When they were made aware there was a fire, they immediately called 911 and waited for the fire department to show up. Everyone is alright for the most part, except one of their sons has a broken wrist that required surgery, and they were treated for smoke inhalation.
They live on Sullivan Rd in Hudson, OH, and as many residents of Hudson are aware, a lot of the city lacks fire hydrants. Sullivan Road does not have fire hydrants. They had to call in water tankers from surrounding cities to bring in water to put this fire out. It took the fire department (and 5+ other surrounding fire departments) over 4-6 hours to get this house fire out. They even began ripping the siding off of the house to make sure the fire was out because it would not stop. There were over 8 firetrucks and 3 water trucks, from what I could see as my family FaceTimed me on the scene. The home is a complete loss. There is nothing salvageable in the home. They have lived in this home for 50+ years. My grandpa, his brother, and their father all built this home themselves. Our entire family has spent their lives in this home. Holidays, birthdays, etc., all celebrated here. I lived several years of my childhood here. My grandparents have lost everything; they only walked out with the clothes on their backs and my grandpa's wallet. My grandparents are retired and have limited funds. My grandpa was also diagnosed with dementia over the last few years, and this has left him very distraught. He has been getting much worse as the months go by. A lot of the time, he does not even recognize his own family.
I'm trying to keep this as short as possible, but this is absolutely devastating for my family. All they know is this home. Their entire life was in this home.
I'm not sure of my grandparents' clothing sizes, as they're still very distraught and trying to figure out a place to stay for a while first. When I find out their clothing sizes, I will post their sizes if anyone would like to donate some clothes. These funds will help them replace some items, like clothing, shoes, a place to live, and whatever other necessities they need, as we wait to figure everything out for them. My Aunt Carla (their daughter) is helping them, and will be in charge of these funds for them since they’re elderly.
If you cannot donate, please say a prayer for my family. Thank you.
