Hi, my name is Joanne and I am Raymond Wiers' little sister. My brother has always been someone I've looked up to for his sacrificing, purpose-filled life, serving Charlotte County and now Sarasota County Sheriff's Dept for the past 38 years. Today, I come to you with a heavy heart as my brother is in a fight for his life with a fast-growing metastasis melanoma that has spread to his spine and bones.
The last month has been vital for heavy-duty treatment, but because of many setbacks and complications, he has been in and out of Moffitt, not even giving him a chance to fight! He had a huge tumor removed from under his armpit that then got infected, and he got sepsis. To follow that, he had an internal bleed from a pelvis biopsy, prolonging his treatment until he healed. Once home from the hospital, he started feeling numb and lost all feeling in the mid-area (paralysis in the saddlebag area) and was rushed back to Moffitt for emergency surgery on Christmas Day from tumors growing and compressing on his spine. We continue to pray for feeling to return. With no avail thus far, this has only made more complications.
Finally, with the next appointment scheduled for Jan 15th for heavy-duty immunotherapy to begin, a doctor that has gotten a liking for my amazing brother got his much-needed treatment moved up to Jan 6th. Ray has an unbelievable attitude. He cannot and will not be shaken! His faith is strong and continues to fight as his pain worsens. As a little sister watching her big brother in so much pain still fight with optimism, hope, and will to live the beautiful gift of life he's been given is heartbreaking as well as breathtaking. The love he has for his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends has been his driving force. He is a strong, mentally and physically, 60-year-young man, and now with all his complications and swift growing of cancer, he is completely dependent on his amazing wife (my beautiful sister-in-law Kathie) for 24/7 around-the-clock care, enabling her not to be working.
As much as my brother is being strong, I can see financial worry taking on some of that energy that he needs to be stored up to fight for his life. I first ask for continued prayers as we are all grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers received already. I am humbly asking if you can help his burdens. I believe if God wants to use this platform to give Ray and Kathie agape love and take away some of the financial fears that can be overwhelming, so they can focus on what matters, He will use it to uplift them when they get weary. I believe in a Big God who feeds thousands with 5 loaves of bread. I believe in miracles, and I believe in humanity, compassion, and love. I thank you in advance for anything you can do to support and love my brother and sister-in-law in any way you can.
