Hello, this is Rae Austin! She is a 63 year old mother of 2 crazy grown-up girls and Nama to a couple kiddos and fur babies. She is a full time supervisor for the United State Postal Service. She was recently diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ.
Rae underwent an emergency double mastectomy and partial reconstruction in August of 2025. It was urgent because the doctors were afraid the cancer would soon become invasive.
Rae also did genetic testing to check for genetic markers for breast cancer that could have been passed down to her daughters. She did have a BRIP1 genetic marker, which increases the risk for ovarian and breast cancer, so upon the strong encouragement of her oncologist, had a full hysterectomy on October, 24th, 2025.
With the hospital stays and recovery time, Rae has depleted her PTO and sick leave and she still has one more procedure to complete the mastectomy (they didn't get all negative margins on the first procedure) and complete the reconstruction, on December 16th, 2025. This fund will help pay for medical bills, mortgage and other living expenses, like groceries and additional after care items.
With this last procedure, Rae will hopefully need no further treatment for her cancer and she can focus on a full recovery.
Please help if you can (a little can go a long way)! Otherwise feel free to share Rae's story. We appreciate everyone for taking the time to read her story. -CharliRae (daughter)
