Hola, my given name is Carla, but I’m starting to feel Ce-Mí as my chosen name. I’m a Boricua non binary shapeshifter queer artist in a journey to my true androgynous self. A few years ago I decided I wanted to transform the body to one more a tune with my inner androgynous self. Crossing this physical portal of top surgery is an act of self love that I know will allow me to be on track to my most authentic euphoric state with myself.

7 months ago I had a plan and a good income, but all that fell when I lost my job right before my birthday in February. Because I was a full time art handler freelancer, I haven’t got any unemployment benefits and haven’t been able to find a consistent job ever since. But I’m a Boricua and a hustler, so I’ve been working really hard to survive in this city; doing pet sitting, dog walking, working music festivals, and lately selling slushees at the beach. That has all been enough to attend my basic needs so far.

Sadly, no matter how hard you hustle, it is not enough to save money for one of the most important times of my life - post surgery recovery (which takes approximately 6 weeks). On top of everything I’m going to be homeless by the end of September, right when I’m supposed to be fully recovered to go back to work. So now I’m reaching out for community support to help me raise funds for my recovery, to buy everything I need for my recovery, pay what’s left of rent, moving out expenses, and to find secure housing afterwards.
