Hello friends, I am Mike Coday. My spouse and I have been the American "parents" of numerous South Sudanese Lost boys. We have helped them enroll in school, learn to drive and have provided shelter and housing help until our African sons were on their feet and ready to become independent.
Our oldest Lost Boy son is Peter Atem. Peter went back to Africa in 2018 and got married to Mina Adeer. Mina and Peter became parents in 2019 when their son Atem was born. Peter and I started work in 2019 to bring his family to the US. Mina and Atem arrived in Chehalis, WA in late 2024. Happy times!
Peter worked two full time jobs to cover for the past five years so that he could afford to pay shelter costs for himself here in Chehalis and for his family in Kampala, Uganda. Both jobs required a lot of walking up and down stairs. The long hours on stairs caught up with Peter in May 2025. Peter took medical leave to get his left knee pain under control and that resulted in a total knee replacement surgery on July 24th. The surgery went well and Peter is recovering. Peter's recovery has been going along rather slowly and he has not been able to return to work yet. We are busy helping Mina apply for her first job in the US, but she is still working hard to become fluent in English and American culture and she has not yet found her first job. Peter's recovery is moving forward slowly and the surgeon now believes Peter will be able to go back to work in late November.
Peter's family medical leave has run out. Peter, Mina and their friends are scrambling for money to cover rent and shelter costs. Marylea and I are doing what we can, as we have always done for our children, but we are not in a position to cover all these costs.
We need your help supporting Peter, Mina and Atem for the next two months while Peter recovers from his knee replacement.
We are asking for your help with Peter's recovery. We need donations to to help cover housing and shelter cost for Peter, Mina and Atem. Can you help this family?
