Aid paralyzed kitten to walk again

Donation protected

When Rescat first rescued this beautiful kitten, the odds were against her. It was February 2021 in Manama, Bahrain. Her loud cries caught the attention of a woman who saw broken-heartedly how she was struggling to climb on the sidewalk to get away from cars.  Sonique's legs were clearly not working as she was dragging them. She was, overall, in a deplorable state. We do not know how Sonique got injured but the neurological damage on her spine left her unable to move her lower body and control her bladder and bowel movements (which makes her prone to developing urine infections).

This 8 months old kitten has spent her short life between vet clinics and foster homes being treated for one thing after another. Nonetheless, Sonique has pushed through and has now the opportunity to learn to walk again. This fundraiser aims to provide her with the funds to support her rehabilitation with the support of Rescat, a local cat rescue organization (CR 137/G/T.A.KH).

We were told by several vets that there was no hope for a paralyzed cat like Sonique in a country like Bahrain.  In many ways they were right. Not only has Bahrain a huge overpopulation of stray cats compared to its small human population, but also limited veterinarian resources to help special needs cats. Yet, Sonique was too young, loving and full of life: so to give up on her without even trying rehabilitation was not an option. Therefore we started her on physiotherapy with @lauraalonsosolerat and to our surprise, Sonique's legs gained strength with just a few sessions and soon, she was able to stand on them!

Unfortunately, in the middle of the recovery process Sonique broke her leg and had to have surgery. Although the operation went well, the vet and the physitherapist were unclear about whether it would prevent her from fully recovering her mobility. A month later, we relocated her to Barcelona, Spain, so she can receive specialized care with the help of Vet-Ter.

Sonique's bones are still dangerously fragile and she is still recovering from UTI  but she is expected to recover most of her mobility. We have already covered the veterinary costs in Bahrain and her travelling expenses but we need donations for her forthcoming physiotherapy sessions at CRAR (see quotation attached).

Sonique is full of energy and curiosity. She deserves a real shot at a life full of running, jumping, and climbing. We thank you in advance for sharing and donating to this cause. Your support is highly appreciated.
