My name is Owen Wicks. I am a sophomore theology major at Grand Canyon University. I am in my second year of a five-year program to get my Masters of Divinity Degree, which will help me toward my desire to become a pastor. In my first year of school I volunteered my time at Phoenix Bible church working with the youth, planning weekly gatherings and helping with many different aspects of behind the scenes details. I loved it.
This year I have been offered the opportunity for a more official role as an intern with the church. Unfortunately, they do not have the budget to pay me even a small stipend for the year. I am excited to gain more experience in ministry and invest in the lives of middle and high school students like others did for me.
My role includes planning weekly youth group, arriving early to help set up, and staying late to tear down, and looking for ways to invest in the students’ lives outside of church as I am able. I will also be the small group leader for the 7th grade boys in the youth group! This means that after the message on Sunday mornings and during the weekly youth nights I will lead small group discussions as well as get to know the students in a small group setting. I look forward to aiding in the discipleship of these students and helping them grow into godly young men.
Your contribution will allow me to have a small monthly stipend for my 10-15 hours per week working at the church. It will help to cover my gas to and from church as well as other expenses related to my role. It will also help to offset some of my student loans for school so that I can emerge with a little less debt. Pastors don’t exactly make the big bucks, so I would be so grateful for any assistance.
