Aid Nick and Emily in Fire Recovery
Donation protected
On Friday September 13th, Nick was running his usual Dungeons and Dragons game after Emily had gone to bed. He heard an explosion outside and immediately turned to see the deck was on fire in the back of the house, making its way towards the living room. A fire outside had reached some paint cans on the deck, causing an explosion and intensifying the blaze.
Ultimately, the City of Fort Wayne Fire Department was able to control the fire and put it out. Unfortunately, the fire had spread into the living room, causing significant water and soot damage. The back windows to the house were destroyed and both air conditioning units were damaged.
State Farm Insurance has done a lot already to help, but there is a high deductible to pay. It also turns out there is damage to the pipes in the basement, preventing utilities from getting turned back on. As a result Nick and Emily have been staying in a hotel provided by the Insurance Company. The plumber is coming Thursday to replace the pipes and hopefully by next week they will be able to return home.
Unfortunately, that is just the first step. The house suffered extensive damage that will take contractors weeks to finish. That means living in disarray and struggling to get reimbursed for everything from Insurance. The pipes, for instance, are old and rotted, not covered by insurance. A slew of contractors are coming in to repair and replace any damaged property.
Thankfully everyone is safe and their two cats and two dogs were rescued safely. Property can be replaced and repaired, it just takes time and a lot of effort dealing with contractors.
