Hello, my name is Nicholas O’Neill H. I moved to a small town a little over a year ago to both help with my recovery and to be a caregiver for my mother. Unfortunately, within the last couple of months, a series of unfortunate events has occurred.
The first being a car wreck having swerved while driving at night to miss a coyote (It looked like my pup, so it was just instinct) resulting in a rollover in which we ended up topside. My dog and I ended up crawling out the back window shaken but unscathed, I passed the roadside and breathalyzer but was still ticketed for careless driving (There being no corpse) and for not being able to find my insurance card on scene. Although this made life more difficult not having a vehicle, I could still manage grocery trips with my pack and friends to help with rides when needed.
Next, after a workout summiting a small mountain, I misstepped and woke over an hour later with my pup licking my face and wounds. I had fallen down a rocky cliff some 20 to 25ft, I don’t remember the fall just slowly realizing I was severely injured. I had to connect back with the trail and resummit to get to my phone to call for help. Three first responders made it up and were disappointed to realize they couldn’t get a helicopter up there to rush me to the hospital because of towers. Minutes later we could see a medical team at the base of the mountain starting the hike with a stretcher. I couldn’t wait and have had the time to lay down and breath, I made the decision to hike down as opposed to wait for the stretcher. I made it to the hospital with large lacerations to the head and chin, broken fingers, wrist and a shattered elbow, trauma and bruising all over my body, but most urgent was a brain hemorrhage in the back of my head.
Due to the hospital being smaller, it did not have the equipment to deal with such an injury, so I was put on a small jet and flown to the Springs to be treated. Weeks later I again was taken to the ER and had stopped breathing so yet AGAIN I was flown to the Springs to stay in ICU until I stabilized. I want to mention from the first responders to both wreck and fall to all the hospital staff, these people are my heroes and saved my life.
Third, and I have to use discretion for my mother but she has become further ill. Though I am healing, I was relieved from my job and am unable to work while I rehabilitate. I am still able to do my part in helping my mom but will be leaving her for about a month or more having to still go through physical therapy and possibly having more surgery done on my hand.
So, even though I didn’t want to have to do this I have to humble myself and ask for help. Her and I have many bills due and overdue due to this avalanche of life. I would feel exponentially better if while I was away her and I didn’t have this financial burden looming over our heads. Anything helps, even a couple bucks would help for laundry and the small things. Thank you all SO much even just for reading. God bless ❤️
