Aid Needed for Kobe's Recovery and Care

Hi, my name is Kobe! I am a rescue living in a small town in Pennsylvania with my mom, who is also my best friend, Jensen. I am a very adventurous and active guy in great health, so my mom takes me with her everywhere that she can!
On Saturday September 28th, 2024, my mom and a few of my best human friends, as well as my dog cousin were out taking one of our usual neighborhood walks when a motorcycle spooked me, causing me to pull really hard on my leash which then snapped. I was so afraid that I ran into traffic and was hit very hard by a giant speeding truck.
I was in so much pain that I couldn’t even move. My family along with the help of some very nice neighbors rushed me down to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital where they did many x-rays and tests.
The vet said that my head trauma had caused my brain to swell, so they gave me all the fluids and medications that I needed so I didn’t suffer any brain damage. My front left leg lost all of the skin, so it has to be left open to heal on its own, which will take many weeks.
They did an x-ray of my pelvis, where it showed a fracture and that all of my bones had been shifted inwards on my right side. I had surgery on October 1st where they put a plate and pins in to hold all my bones together in the correct position. Once my doctor got in there during the surgery, he found multiple other fractured bones that will have to be left to heal on their own.
So far, I have been at the vet for 6 days. I am not able to move around or stand up on my own, and I miss my mom a lot. She says I get to come home soon, but I have t be very careful for the next 8 weeks. I will need constant care and will not be able to move around on my own for quite a while.
I am very lucky to still be here! I am my Mom’s whole world! I know my recovery will be a long process, but I am such a strong guy to have survived such a terrible trauma.
My vet bills and surgery costs are upwards of $15,000. My mom says that I am worth every penny! I will also need many follow up appointments and physical therapy, so I can do all the things I want to do and chase every chipmunk I see!
Mom and I want to thank the strangers that let us use their truck to get me home, as well as Charlotte and Ethan who brought my aunt and cousin home and kept everyone calm. The biggest thank you in the world to all the vets and vet techs who have been caring for me around the clock!
Anything helps, and Mom and I thank you with all our hearts!
Sincerely,
Kobe and Jensen
