Hey guys--for those of you that don't know me, my name is Samantha Brumbaugh and I am an attorney in North Carolina and have been for 20+ years. In all of my years of practice I've never reached out to my circle in this way...but there's a first time for everything. (Note: my client has provided permission for me to post this request.)
As some of you know I am a bankruptcy attorney representing individuals and businesses, whether through liquidation of assets or restructuring of debt. I currently have a client in an active chapter 13 bankruptcy (an individual reorganization) that is in need of assistance with her power bill. My client has been in her chapter 13 bankruptcy for 3 years (of a 5 year plan). She filed her bankruptcy in order to retain her vehicle such that she can travel to and from Chapel Hill for doctor's visits, as she has congestive heart failure. She has an outstanding power bill of a little over $3,000.00 that she simply can't pay. (The issue that resulted in the high bill has been resolved.) My client is elderly and on a fixed income. She has contemplated dismissing her bankruptcy; however, I would hate for her to have gotten this far, all for nothing. We've reached out to a number of organizations, churches, etc. with no success.
In any event, if you can donate towards this cause she would be forever grateful. I would be forever grateful. And it would make a person's (a really good person) life so much easier.
Thank you.
Sam
