Aid Needed for Austin-based Musician's Vocal Recovery
Donation protected
Hi friends,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I’m a performing musician and music teacher based in Austin, and after years of managing vocal issues, I’ve hit a point where I need to ask for help.
My vocal problems started nearly 20 years ago, when I developed nodules during a military summer camp that involved a lot of yelling. Even after the nodules healed, the tension and vocal strain stuck around. Over the years I’ve worked with coaches and made progress, but a combination of nonstop performing and a tough sinus infection this winter led to a serious recurrence. I had to cancel shows, scale back work, and finally make the decision to get surgery.
I’ve scheduled the procedure for May 19. While insurance covers part of it, I have a high deductible and additional uncovered costs. On top of that, I’ll be forced to step away from performing—and limit my teaching—on my surgeon’s orders for six weeks as I recover. The financial strain has added up quickly.
This isn’t an ask I ever imagined making, but so many friends and fellow musicians in the Austin community have encouraged me to create this fundraiser. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who’s already offered support or kind words—it’s meant more than I can say.
Here’s what I’m raising funds for:
- $1,500 — insurance deductible
- $750 — out-of-pocket medical costs (anesthesia, facility, etc.)
- $4,750 — estimated lost income during recovery
This is also happening just as I’m preparing to release my first solo EP—something I’ve been working toward for a long time. I’m still excited to share it, and with this surgery, I hope to be back to singing, teaching, and performing at full strength.
Any donation, share, or word of encouragement helps more than you know. Thank you for being here and for supporting independent artists like me.
