Aid Needed: 35-Year Career, Health Struggles

Hope you’re having a Happy New Year! I’ve run into huge snags after I injured both my arms lifting a piece of furniture that tore both my biceps.  Here’s the story I have been living a nightmare since November 30th when I hurt both my shoulders lifted a big dresser mirror that slipped forward out of my hands pulling my arms and entire body forward as it fell.

I went to Md Xpress since couldn’t get into my new primary til January. So they did an X-ray on my right shoulder and then sent me for an MRI. I have torn my right bicep and most likely my left one also.   They could not give me an authorization number to go to an orthopedic and so I called back Florida Blue to see what I had to do next. Was told my primary was the only one who could authorize a referral.   I had to change primary’s 3 times to finally get into Dr Cohen who only could get me in due to a cancellation on December 30th.  Finally saw him and i was told it would take 24-48 hours to get the referral sent to Dr Adam Lipman (orthopedic) but all the way in Boca and not for yet another week on January 17th, 2025 plus I’d rather go to an orthopedic I’ve used before for two surgeries.

Dr Cohen told me he will refer me to an orthopedic in Boca named Dr Adam Lipman.

He sent over authorization but all wrong codes. I tried calling both offices and ended up marching back into Dr Cohens to get them sent by talking with Dr Lipman office finally.

    Dr David Cohen just has his office call me at 5pm Friday to tell me he only remembered my right arm so have to go see him again next Monday, January 13th in order for him to send correct codes for both arms. Now mind you he had told me on December 30th at 1st appointment he would submit for bilateral approvals. (I don’t use those terms so know he will remember me when I march back in there on Monday.)

    Meanwhile can’t work at all due to can’t lift my arms or drive or carry food as the bicep has also affected my arm and both arms are weak along with my right hand is affected so dressing, putting on make up, eating right handed is very difficult and can hardly write.

Called my Florida Blue agent who has given me directive to tell Dr Cohen to send bilateral codes to the orthopedic I have used before and call that office to make sure they can get me in asap since previous client. Unreal!
