This past year has been one of the most difficult our family has ever faced. My mom has experienced significant health challenges that have greatly impacted her mobility and independence. What started as medical concerns quickly turned into hospital stays, rehabilitation, and eventually time in a skilled nursing facility to receive the level of care she needed.

While we are incredibly grateful she received that care, the financial aftermath has been overwhelming. Due to limited insurance coverage, she has accrued more than $30,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses from her stay in the skilled nursing facility alone. Despite doing everything responsibly and planning carefully throughout her life, this unexpected situation has created a burden that is simply beyond what she can manage on her own.

For 45 years, my mom was a devoted teacher. She poured her heart into her classroom, shaping young minds, encouraging struggling students, staying late to help those who needed extra support, and celebrating every success as if it were her own. Teaching wasn’t just her job — it was her calling. She gave so much of herself to her students, her colleagues, and her community.

Now, she finds herself in the humbling position of needing help.

It is not easy for us to ask. My mom has always been independent, generous, and the first person to show up when someone else was in need. But at this point, we are reaching out in hopes that those whose lives she touched — and those who simply believe in supporting someone who has given so much — might consider helping her during this incredibly challenging time.
