Hello, friends and family and maybe complete strangers reading this story.
Making a small update... this fundraiser is for Kim Smith Brown to help with final expenses for Steve Brown. ❤️
UPDATE: we are almost halfway there for Kim and Steve. Let's keep up the good work and please keep hitting the share button! ❤️
On February 20th Pops went into the hospital, thinking he had pneumonia. Three hours later, sitting in a hospital hallway; because of overcrowding, he was told that he had stage four cancer and that it had spread to his brain, liver, and lungs, which had tumors and fluid. At that time, they did not know what kind of cancer, but over the next couple of days, we found out that it was lung cancer and it had gotten into his lung lining, which caused the cancer to metastasize. It had spread to his brain, liver, kidneys, and lungs. You could actually see bumps of cancer coming out of his lip, legs, face, groin and on his head. The plan was to start a GoFundMe to help Mom and Pops get a vehicle so he could get to and from his radiation and chemotherapy.
He was able to start some radiation on the brain, but was in too much pain. So was sent to the hospital, which is basically where he spent his last month of his life. One time they had to drain fluid, one of the last times he went there to the hospital, He was throwing up like black blood, which they found out he was septic. He did spend his Birthday March 17th in the hospital. And he actually was released on the 20th which was Mom's birthday so that was great...
There were many procedures done at the hospital and plans in place for radiation and chemotherapy,etc.
After coming home Mom called the doctor and hospice came in to make him comfortable;
However, yesterday March 24th he took a turn and now he is with his maker.
This still leaves lots of medical expenses for Mom and now funeral arrangements, taking time off, losing money, etc.
I would like to say a little bit about Mom and Pops... married for 51 years. They have burried two children and These two are the most selfless people you'll ever meet in your life even after all they have been through. They have helped hundreds and hundreds of people that I know with groceries, help with a bill, maybe a car ride, but for most, a roof over their head. Now I think it's time that we help Mom and Pops out as she will need it more than she ever will.
This GoFundMe was supposed to be to make his last months a little bit less stressful where he could at least focus on getting better and his health. And now after the devastating turn, it is now a post to help Mom with the final expenses and also maybe a little help with getting on her feet.
I do want to add that my Pops was a diehard Nebraska fan. He asked the nurses if they could just get him to the first Husker Game, that's all he cared about. In fact, in a post, he refers to fighting the cancer like the previous husker player Ndamukong (Dominic) Suh fights on the field.
Again I have had to change this GoFundMe from getting a little help to get to and from treatments to now helping Mom; as she will be losing income, and is on disability herself. On top of that, she just had to bury her son a year ago.
There is so much more that I would like to say about Mom and Pops but I'm sure the comments will be pouring through as soon as this is posted.
I know it's a hard time for everybody out here, But any little bit helps. Thank you ahead of time. And even if you can offer a prayer, she would appreciate that. Thanks!
I thought I would add their names since I refer to them as "Mom and Pops"
Kim Smith Brown and Steve Brown
Anything helps. I am hoping to get her the money for the cremation, which I believe is $1300. She would like to rent a room for a celebration of life which is $150 plus food and beverages. And finally I would love for her to be able to pay a couple of months of rent, so she can grieve and not worry financially.
